Custom Testing

FMI established the Energy Materials Testing Laboratory (EMTL) division in 1975 to provide a variety of test services at elevated temperatures. Since then EMTL is an industry leader in material testing extending from -300°F to 5000°F. EMTL possesses the staff, resources and experience necessary to evaluate and characterize basic and advanced composite materials, and perform material acceptance testing.

Since its establishment in 1975, FMI’s Energy Materials Testing Laboratory (EMTL) has leveraged both its internal engineering resources and FMI’s materials expertise to develop a highly qualified source for high performance and high temperature materials evaluation.

Comprised of a broad range of material evaluation capabilities, from morphological assessment by SEM to thermal properties, basic chemistry, radiography and mechanical testing; the EMTL can provide customers with the capability to quickly perform an evaluation on a specimen or material to support a complete understanding of performance (properties) and attributes (characteristics).

The test procedures that will be used have been developed at FMI/EMTL through 40 years of experience with similar materials and have been determined to meet or exceed ASTM testing requirements. Utilization of existing/developed EMTL specimen designs and test procedures maintains internal consistency with the composite legacy and allows direct comparison of results to baseline performance. Specific test and support equipment to meet test objectives is currently in place at EMTL.
