About

Who we are

Innovation is at the core of what we do.

For more than 55 years, FMI has stood on the front lines of material innovation, supporting and protecting America through high‑temperature composites built for the most extreme missions. Our manufacturing facilities have long partnered with the Department of Defense, NASA, and other critical agencies to deliver solutions that perform when it matters most.

Across our U.S. operations, each facility plays a specialized role in advancing high‑temperature composite technologies. In Biddeford, Maine, our teams focus on multidirectional reinforced Carbon/Carbon (C/C) and Ceramic Matrix Composites (CMCs) used in demanding applications such as thermal protection systems, re‑entry vehicle nose tips, and rocket motor nozzles. Our Woonsocket, Rhode Island facility excels in textile engineering, producing advanced 2D woven fabrics, 3D woven preforms, braided preforms and near net shape and fiber-reinforced composites from world-leading materials like carbon, glass, aramid, and ceramic. Our Winston‑Salem, North Carolina facility serves as our composites manufacturing hub, delivering Refrasil® silica cloth, carbonized rayon, and carbon phenolic composites for re‑entry vehicle heatshields.

No one else offers the same level of innovation and purpose‑driven design. From enabling hypersonic speeds and planetary re‑entry to advancing rocket motors, our materials are built to endure. Our legacy is rooted in service, and our success is grounded in partnership—when our customers succeed, we succeed.
